Hi Friends,
I love tips. Food tips, health tips, cleaning tips, etc. I have an ability to retain tips more than anything else. Ask me what I did last New Year's Eve and I wouldn’t be able to tell you, but ask me how to ripen an avocado or stop a zit in its tracks, I’ve got you. It could be that I’m a double Virgo - practical, sensible, meticulous, and single minded in the quest for improvement. I love to share this knowledge and I’ll take any opportunity to include a tip into a conversation. This week I’m sharing tips for food, first aid, arts & crafts, and spiritual support.
Kitchen Bible: The New Food Lover's Tiptionary
This book is truly my kitchen bible. If you don’t have it, run, don’t walk and get it! It’s loaded with info from A to Z and its alphabetical! Each entry is tells you how to buy, store, prepare, and in some cases shares a history nugget. All of this is packed into a chunky paragraph (a Virgo’s dream!). I like to consult its pages of endless wisdom after my farmers market haul, mostly for storage tips. For instance, when storing herbs, wrap loosely in a damp paper towel seal in a plastic bag ( I use a rectangular glass storage container) for up to 5 days (mine last way longe than that by the way). For bouquet herbs like parsley, basil, and cilantro, cut off 1/2 an inch off the stems and put into a glass half filled with cold water and a linch of sugar. Cover with a plastic bag and secure with a rubber band. Change the water every 2 days. It’s magic! And it goes on and on. So many tips! So much joy!
Rx: Silver Gel
This first aid miracle is always in my medicine cabinet and travel bag. Silver (the metal) has significant health benefits and has been used for centuries. It’s a strong antimicrobial and in this gel form it helps heal cuts, prevent infections, soothes bug bites, and more recently cleared up a giant pimple I should have left alone! I also use Collodial Silver in liquid form as a natural antibiotic when I’m feeling run down or achy. I just recently learned that the it helps with internal heat regulation and circulation, which I love because I generate a lot of heat.
Greeting Cards: Artifact Uprising
I don’t know about you, but I still love sending cards to people. It’s a personal touch I fear is becoming extinct. I get a charge out of seeing a letter or card amongst the endless pile of junk and flyers in my mailbox. I just made a fresh batch of 25 cards from my iPhone photos. I love making the 5x5 square cards as well as the folded variety with envelopes. *bonus tip: I happen to love small prints and the 5x5 cards also look great matted and framed. I get mat boards cut here and I buy frames here. It’s affordable and good quality if you want to make a special gift.
Grounding practices: Inward by Yung Pueblo
Bibliomancy is the use of books in divination. The method of employing sacred books (especially specific words and verses) for 'magical medicine,' for removing negative entities, or for divination is widespread in many religions of the world. I have been doing this for years and had no idea is was an actual practice! My book of choice is Inward by Yung Pueblo - “Young People” written by Diego Perez, an Ecuadorian writer and poet. I love this book and it’s my favorite source of grounding. Here’s what I do: After I meditate in the morning, I close my eyes and ask for a message for the day. I flip through the pages and stop when it feels right. The message ALWAYS correlates with something I’m either working on or struggling with. It brings a sense of direction and peace.
Enjoy and please share your tips with me. I can assure you, they will be stored for life!
Love,
Nancy Jo
